CONSIDER  THIS BEFORE   REMODELING YOUR HOME!

You might be surprised to learn that it isn’t always cheaper to do it yourself, and there
are some bigger-ticket products that do pay for themselves relatively quickly. Read on
to learn where to save money and how to have a less stressful time remodeling with the
following tips on how to get the best prices on your  home remodeling project.  This will
also help you understand what criteria define the best price.

You need a  plan :     Small ,complex or a straightforward remodel, spending time doing  product research and project planning will definitely save you money later. Take   time to comparison shop for the best deals on products and fixtures because the cost for any particular item can vary greatly.   Make sure
you compare   the exact same item when searching.  Plan the finishes you want and  fit your lifestyle, and
you will get the best deals and your remodel will turn out the way you wanted it to..

Do it yourself project ?     Let’s face it, sometimes we all need to be a little more honest about
our own home remodeling capabilities. For some, taking on a  home remodeling project yourself can save you  considerable money however  do it yourself  isn’t  necessarily the most cost-effective way to go.   Do you really have the experience , the proper tools and the time available to complete your project ?

Should you hire a professional ?        For most people, their home is normally their biggest investment.  Home remodel projects that might alter structural integrity, energy efficiency or maybe even visual appeal will dramatically change the value of the home.    Before investing precious time and money
in a trial and error situation,   homeowners should consider consulting  a professional   home remodeling contractor to guarantee a top-quality finish.    Read the next section before selecting a Contractor.

Locate the correct contractor for the remodel project:                  If professional  remodeling assistance is what you decide you need, you can erase the chances of losing hard-earned money and  the never-finished  work when you hirea home remodeling contractor that is licensed, insured and who comes highly  recommended  by people that have used his services  before.  Be sure to contact  a few prior customers.   Be sure to get a certificate of insurance from your contractors Insurance Agent that shows you as the certificate holder    Also it is extremely important  that your  contractor gets a permit , that all work is inspected and passes inspections  by your local construction official.  In the long-run, you can also save time and money by choosing a remodeling  specialist for a project when special skills and superior craftsmanship are what your job requires. Never give more than  a 5% down unless there are special order items involved such as Windows,Cabinets or other items that can not be returned to the supplier. Be sure to  have a written payment schedule included within the contract that specifies when payments are due.

                                           THIS IS  VERY IMPORTANT !
Please make sure that the final inspection has been passed  before making the final payment.    Just look at the slip the inspector leaves  on site after each inspection made     and  If it says   "final inspection passed "  or  "okay to C.O.",  the job is completed as long as all cleanup has been done. You can make the final  payment according to the payment schule within your contract.

   Get comparable Estimates:
Now planning can really pay off.  There is often a big difference between what a  remodeling contractor thinks they heard you say you wanted and what actually requested,  In order to eliminate misunderstandings and to get realistic job estimates,  prepare a detailed specification list for the contractors bidding the job.  This list could include everything from the exact space to be remodeled to the finish colors and fixtures you want to use on the job.  Let them know in advance that you expect a detailed step by step written estimate with a clearly defined schedule of payment.  Give your specifications  sheet to each contractor who is bidding on your job and you will have bids that can be fairly compared to help you decide which  home remodeling contractor to hire.  Often a contractor will include less expensive materials that look less expensive and won't last as long as  higher cost items , So it is important to supply all bidders with the same specified item requirements. Remember that the quoted price is not nearly as important as Licenses,Insurance and verifiable references.

Choose Quality job materials:  Remember you get what you pay for.  Paying a little more or sometimes even a lot more for materials and fixtures is often the wisest choice you can make. That's because the items will last a long time, unlike some less expensive items that often do not last more than a few years and look cheap. It is always better in the end to use quality materials If you can fit it in your budget.

Consider energy efficiency:  Remodeling materials that provide energy efficiency  often pay for themselves relatively quickly. Go green and save energy by installing Water Sense fixtures, Energy Star
